Walls and Bridges Returns April 11

We’re pleased to announce that our friends at the Villa Gillet have returned for the second season of Walls and Bridges, starting with a panel on “What is Engagement Today?”

Co-sponsored by n+1 and Aperture, the panel will be held at 6:30 PM on Monday, April 11 at the Aperture Gallery at 547 W. 27th St. Editor Mark Greif will moderate a conversation with the New Yorker’s George Packer, documentary photographer Nina Berman, anthropologist and physician Didier Fassin, and psychoanalyst and activist Miguel Benasayag.

The Villa Gillet writes, “So far, 2011 has been a watershed year for political engagement—from North Africa to the halls of the Wisconsin Capitol. Across the world the struggles for peace, civil and human rights and the protection of the environment move people to action. But who are the faces of these movements? Who are the Sartre, De Beauvoir and Luther King of today? What are the new tools of activism online and in the streets?”

Walls and Bridges is curated by the Villa Gillet and presented by the Conseil de la Création artistique. The central theme for Season 2 is “Freedom and Rights,” and the full program is available at http://www.wallsandbridges.net.
