Free to download: Stop Cop City and the Struggles to Come

The military has become the police, the police mimic the movies, the movies are all for children, and the children have no future

In January 2024, n+1 published Stop Cop City and the Struggles to Come, a zine that collects two essays about the movement to stop the construction of a new police training center in Atlanta. First published in the Fall 2023 issue of n+1, “Not One Tree”—by Grace Glass with Sasha Tycko—provides an emotional and inner history of the forest defenders’ life and work over the past two and a half years, written from within the encampments. A. C. Corey’s “The Forest and Its Partisans,” published at nplusonemag.com in January, considers the Stop Cop City project in the larger history of US left movements and offers tentative conclusions about where to go from here. In this moment of extraordinary repression against college students and others who are occupying in protest of the American support for the genocide in Gaza, we are offering the zine as a free download below. Our hope is that Stop Cop City and the Struggles to Come offers some clarity not only about movement-building and state violence in Atlanta, but in the US writ large.
