Bureaucratic Heroism
Bureaucratic heroes are “ultrareal” heroes for working, law-abiding adults.
The political and moral problems involved with particular bureaucratic practices are largely whitewashed by those same narrative and aesthetic techniques that draw all of these films into generic proximity. The filmmakers, like their characters, are just doing their jobs.
